Hades II

The title screen of the video game “Hades II” features the game’s name in a glowing green, jagged font against a dark background. The Roman numeral “II” is stylized with cracks and emits an eerie green light. Small particles of light float around the text. The version number “v0.103687” is displayed in the top right corner. I was gifted a copy of Hades II as a part of the 2024 Gamer’s Tavern Secret Santa. After having played The original and thoroughly enjoying it, I was pretty ready to hop back into the underworld and go for round 2.

The game follows a similar concept as the original, but from the perspective of Melinoë, the Princess of the Underworld. There are a few new game mechanics this go around, and I love the inclusion of being able to talk to your pet toad, but ultimately it’s just TOO much like the first game for right now. Having just played through that, I wasn’t getting anything new out of this one to keep me fully entertained. It’ll be one I pick back up down the line once I get a few other games under my belt, especially since they are still adding new content.
